Pathogens and Disease (soon to be FEMS Infectious Diseases) publishes outstanding primary research on hypothesis- and discovery-driven studies on pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, host response to infection and their molecular and cellular correlates.

Message from the editor

"It is a true privilege to be offered the challenge of leading FEMS Infectious Diseases. With the emergence of new conceptual frameworks and technological advances we can now better tackle public health concerns and better understand infectious diseases across vectors and spheres. An important factor in accepting this role was that the remit of the journal aligns perfectly within the existing FEMS family: it is an international journal with its genesis and roots in Europe, and most importantly, a not-for-profit outfit run by scientists for scientists.

The change of title better encapsulates the journal’s scope and provides a clearer identity. We aim to cover infectious diseases research in the broadest sense, encompassing topics from infection prevention and control together with novel therapeutics, as well as existing (e.g. AMR) and emerging challenges. 

We invite high quality contributions from around the globe and from researchers at all career stages. The guiding principles at FEMS Infectious Diseases are inclusion, equality, robustness and impact”.
